How an article is produced
Every article starts from primary sources — an RBI circular, a SEBI or IRDAI notification, an AMFI release, an exchange filing, a government notification. We do not write from memory and we do not rewrite other publications.
- A research brief is compiled from the source documents, separating what is confirmed from what is not.
- A draft is written against that brief. Any figure, date or name that is not in the brief does not go in.
- The draft is checked back against the brief. Anything unsupported is removed or marked as unconfirmed.
- A named reviewer with the relevant qualification signs off the accuracy of anything covering investments, insurance, tax or loans.
- Only then is it published. The reviewer and the review date appear on the article.
We use AI tools in drafting and research. They do not publish anything. A person reads every article and a qualified person signs off the money-related ones — that is a rule in the system, not a habit.
What we will not publish
- Guaranteed, assured or risk-free returns on any market-linked product.
- Invented statistics, studies, quotations or sources. Every article lists the sources it was built from.
- Invented client stories or testimonials. Where a real client situation is described, it is anonymised and figures are rounded so no individual is identifiable.
- Fear as a selling device. No manufactured urgency, no “your family will suffer”.
- Claims about our own regulatory standing beyond what is stated above.
Facts, analysis and opinion
We keep these visibly apart. Reported facts carry their sources. Where we interpret rather than report, it appears under a FinPick Analysis heading and is labelled as our reading. Columns under Nikhil Speaks are personal opinion and are written from the author’s own notes.
How we make money
We earn distributor commission from asset management companies and insurers when a client invests or buys a policy through us. Investors pay us no fee for mutual fund transactions. This is worth knowing when you read anything we publish: we have a commercial interest in these products, which is precisely why the rules above exist and why our sources are listed for you to check.
Keeping articles current
Tax rules, premiums and scheme terms change. Articles on those subjects are re-checked at least once a year, and the review date on the article tells you when that last happened. If a review has gone stale, the article is pulled back for re-checking rather than left to drift.
